What does ‘dairy smarter’ mean to a dairy producer?
For one Wisconsin dairy, it means capturing data they need to improve their herd and daily operations.
Grotegut Dairy Farm was looking for a low-maintenance monitoring solution for their 3,500-cow dairy located near Manitowoc, Wis. With 50 full-time employees and milking three times a day. They needed to efficiently collect herd data to reveal daily insights and compare them to see if protocols were being followed.
Eric Grotegut and his wife, Rosario Ibarra, manage the dairy together and worked with Ever.Ag in the past.

Finding opportunities to improve
With the data coming in right away, Grotegut Dairy was able to make improvements immediately. For example, some stalls were not in the best shape, and the cows indicated that by not laying down. As a result, they prioritized fixing the stalls right away to maximize cow comfort.
Also, they knew there were opportunities to improve feed management. With a monitoring solution, Eric and Rosario could see the specific times of feed pushups and pinpoint a person who could help improve those times.

Grotegut Dairy continues to work with Ever.Ag today. They receive a daily executive summary report from the data that is collected.
“Having a report generated daily allows us to take action immediately versus waiting for a monthly report. The summary also provides benchmarking capabilities,” Rosario said.
Ever.Ag provides insight into what the data is telling Eric and Rosario. In turn, they can utilize the data to help support any protocol changes or decisions that need to be made to improve farm operations.
